After being physically persecuted in Germany, a mental patient (Bruno S.), his prostitute girlfriend (Eva Mattes) and an old man come to America - Wisconsin, actually - to pursue that fabled Dream of becoming rich, but only end up "spiritually" persecuted. As a satire of American consumerism and the struggles of the lower class, it's dead on - the mad trio, after getting a house and some jobs think they have it made ... that is until they become tired with their 'new lives' and stop making payments. Herzog certainly isn't scotch with the nonsense (dancing chickens, the old man's scientific experiment, robbing barbers at gunpoint) so the film is suitably - and uniformly - absurd, if a little rough in overall execution.
