JFK

Director: Oliver Stone
Year Released: 1991
Rating: 2.5

I wanted to like it ... so help me I did ... but Stone's bloated, borderline nuts film about Jim Garrison's (Kevin Costner) obsession with Kennedy's assassination is too much to take. The cinematography is brilliant and unique and some of the performances are dead-on (Gary Oldman is convincing as the mysterious Lee Harvey Oswald; Sissy Spacek and Ed Asner work well in their roles). But I have a problem with casting Costner in the lead (I find his performance to be too subdued and rather bland considering the energetic supporting cast) and also with the fact that Stone simply 'makes up' stories about what may or may not have happened and expects you to accept them as His Truth.
