The Life of Jesus

Director: Bruno Dumont
Year Released: 1997
Rating: 2.0

It took a while for Dumont's follow-up to this film - Humanite - to really sink in, but this picture doesn't have the same kind of lingering effect on my mind and altogether seems rather ordinary in comparison. It does follow the Dumont style of alternating lackluster living with hardcore sex with prompt violence, but there are so many other movies about disaffected teens it just blends in with the average ones. The title is more a provocation than anything - there are bits of religious symbolism here and there (the main character's epilepsy is intended to represent Jesus' 'communication' with God) but it's a pretty loose association.
